Well the rest of the week was fine, quich trip into Malindi on Wednesday and managed to leave my photo cable behind in the cyber cafe but it was still there on Fri am.
Left the Orphanage, think I may already of written about that and joined Jennifer in Watamu. Very nice guest house, we had a huge balcony - only down side was that we had to share a double, well it was more like a King but Jennifer still managed to steal the top sheet off me!!!!
Really liked Watamu, small sprawly village very Kenyan and people were generally nice and friendly. Did some pressie shopping, still for those selected few!!! Got loads of Tusker from Mamma Lucy's (supermarket) and managed to get in a bit of sunbathing - hooray.
The beach in Watamu is fab, but you have to go to the right beach as there are three. Just in case you ever go we recommend Watamu Bay, you can walk all the way to Malindi from there and it only takes 6 hours (so of course we popped down to Malindi and then popped back) missing the tides which make the beach disappear completely. You can easily get cut off with the tides over here, so we always carry a rubber blow up boat with us whenever we go on the beach!
Were very decadent and had dinner in our room on the first night - well it was veggie curry with Chapati and rice but we were tired and too lazy to go out. Next night it was Pizza and I was extremely Italian and had Campari Soda and Limoncello!!!!
Talking about the Italians, the ones that come to Kenya are a little bit odd shall we say..... This coastline is very atttactive to the Italians, mainly we think for the younger Kenyan Women who work for a living by entertaining White Men and also for the younger and in some circumstances very young Kenyan men/boys who also seem to be popular with the Italian men. Have heard rumours about illegal trafficking of Kenyan boys into Italy for the pornography industry but not sure how true that is.
Anyway I digress, Watamu we would seriously recommend. However ideally it would be beneficial to have spent a few days in Kenya before going to Watamu so that you understand the culture and know how to behave. Jennifer and I are willing to give lessons for a small fee of course.
