CRS Instalment No 4 or is it 5?

Well after recovering from the day at the beach we duly started work again at the school... I have taught a couple of English classes this week and I must say my ability as a teacher was actually 'pants'. I think I confused the kids more than they were originally! I blame it on the fact I was not sure whether they had done their past, present and future tenses.... anyway had to go and fess up to Madam Miriam!

Have also ran a couple of reading classes which were fine, I recruited Madam Kathleen one day and then recruited Madam Jennifer and Mr Jamie as well as Madam Kathleen yesterday. However in my excitement at having some help I also suggested to the Teacher that we take both classes for reading, only a total of about 80 students! However it was a fairly successful hour, we each took a group and did reading with them. Madam Jennifer had problems with discplining her group, they were the naughtier ones, so I pitched in and actually sent one boy back to class and made him apologise to Jennifer for his misbehaviour. It was quite fun as we all sat outside on the grass and played a game at the end.... I will teach you all the Kenyan kiddies games - Goose Goose Duck and "I want"!

Jennifer and I decided to fill some balloons up with water earlier this week and caused quite a big stir with the kids from the Orphanage and the School. Was excellent fun, although the balloons were reluctant to burst when we threw them..... So people got drenched when they shouldn't have and vice a versa. I tried ambushing Jennifer but the kids, bless them, are so into us ambushing each other they stand and stare giving away your location!!!!

Has been quite a good week on the whole, apart from quite a boring day trip to Mida Creek - seperate blog for that to come.

Yesterday was great, Jennifer played hangman with her students and was Queen of Sweeties. I made lemon water for the second time this week and gave out football stickers. We also blew up the last of the balloons in the afternoon.

Then we had to make a speech to the kids at the Home and Jennifer and I made one girl (Bhati) cry as we gave her 300 KS to clean the house we have been staying in. Would normally have only been 100 ks but she is such a fab, lovely 15 year old and works so hard but has serious difficulties in reading. Kathleen reckons she has a processing disorder, I have been trying to help her this week with her reading and Kathleen is going to be working with her after we have left. She is definitely my favourite girl and bless her she wrote me such a lovely note (with the help of one of the Aunties) saying that I had enabled her to read, so then i cried too....

More tears to come when I get back to the Orphanage in a bit to collect my bags.... Am in Malindi at the moment blogging and had to go to the bank to finally get some money, don't go there on the banks and ATMs let just say I shall be having stern words with my bank when I get home...

For those of you wondering about Jennifers departure, she left the Orphanage when I left to come in to Malindi, a little emotional. She is probably now chilling out in the Hotel with a Tusker in hand, thinking how lucky she is to have got rid of me for a few hours.... Don't relax too much Jennifer I am on my way!
